“Come Away with Me” Luggage Book
Thursday, August 6 8:30-11:30 AM

Details galore adorn this book created with the Graphic 45
“Come Away with Me” collection. Open the functional
metal clasp that resembles a luggage clasp to find a two
section journal and journaling cards. Students will create a
functional leather handle on the spine of the book. There
will be several choices of scrap to use to trim the inside.
Class includes written instructions and all materials. Jan is a
bookbinding master and a graduate of Hollander’s School of
Book and Paper Arts.

Stampaway 2015 — Jute Bound Journal

AUTUMN JUTE BOUND ALBUM
Thursday, August 6 2:00-4:00 PM

You’ll select a beautiful piece of handmade paper featuring
rich Autumn colors to use as the cover. The binding sewing
uses orange Irish Linen sewn over two types of Jute ribbon.
Colored cork will finish the inside of the book. This fat book
is seven sections with a lovely ivory text weight paper and
a heavier kraft card stock. A little tassel of Czech glass beads
decorates the spine and is actually a part of the spine
sewing. Class fee includes written instructions and all
materials needed. Jan is a bookbinding master and
graduate of Hollander’s School of Book and Paper Arts.

Stampaway 2015 — Silver and Suede Journal

Silver and Suede Journal
Friday, August 7 4:15-6:15 PM

Students will choose a piece of colored suede for their
cover. This five section journal is sewn with a fine linen
which causes the beads to appear to be “floating” along the
spine. A large center bead is bracketed by two Czech glass
beads. A heavy paper for the sections adds to the heft of
this journal, which opens perfectly flat. Class fee includes
written instructions & all materials needed to complete one
journal. Jan is a bookbinding master and a graduate of
Hollander’s School of Book and Paper Arts.

Ribbon Journal — Stampaway 2014

You’ll choose from handmade papers from India to   create the cover for this intriguing journal. The text   pages will be sewn onto a ribbon which ties into the  spine of the book. The journal is 4.25”x 5.75” and has 48 cream colored, unlined pages. All materials provided, including written instructions. Jan is a graduate of Hollanders School of Book and Paper Arts in Ann Arbor, MI. Bring: pencil, transparent ruler, bone folder, awl, scissors, 1” foam or flat brush for gluing, old wash rag,  X-Acto knife, cutting mat. Helpful: paperback book at least 1” thick to use as punching cradle (using it will break spine, so bring a book that can be “abused”).

Vinage Cookbook — Stampaway 2014

You’ll design the cover using patterned paper from the Farmhouse Paper Company, featuring vintage ads and recipes. Funky vintage kitchen prints will line the inside cover, where you’ll find a pocket that you will make from vintage advertising labels. The cookbook will measure 4.25”x 5 .75” with 48 cream colored, unlined pages. Finishing the cookbook is a bronze dinner plate charm attached to the 3-section pamphlet stitch sewn with Irish waxed linen. Class fee includes all materials and written instructions are provided. Jan is a bookbinding master.

April 25, 2014 – Big Button Book with Jan Lill Worms at USArtQuest in Chelsea, Michigan

Date:               Friday, April 25, 2014

Time:               10:00 – 1:00pm

Participants will learn two bookbinding stitches by creating this adorable chunky little book with a big button closure. The handmade paper choices available for this book are nearly endless! Participants will select a favorite paper from Art Papers Online’s wonderful warehouse and a coordinating big button. The text sections are sewn using a decorative “barber pole” stitch. The fore edge of the book is trimmed with a hand sewn “machine stitch.”

Irish waxed linen and beads will be used to create the tie closure and participants will learn how to finish the tie end with a small ornamental tassel. There’s lots of learning packed into this charming project!

Class Fee: $38 all materials included

Come to Speedy Scrappers on Saturday, November 9 and learn to make this Dazzling Datebook! You will learn basic bookbinding techniques that you will use transform an inexpensive 2014 datebook into a treasure you’ll enjoy everyday of the new year. You’ll receive complete written instructions so you will be able to create as many of these little beauties as you like. They make great stocking stuffers for friends, family and co-workers! The datebook includes pages for notes, addresses and contact information, and weekly & monthly calendars in a perfect size to fit in your pocket or purse.

The cover is soft and pretty. You’ll use Irish waxed linen and Irish linen bookcloth with beautiful cover papers of your choice.

This workshop is perfect for anyone! No bookbinding experience is needed.

Your registration fee includes all of the materials you will need to create one datebook. At the start of the workshop you’ll choose one or two sheets of Speedy Scrappers gorgeous paper to use for your cover and for the inside of the datebook, and some little “extras” to make your datebook really special. In the workshop we will discuss several variations for your datebook that you may wish to try at home.

Participants are asked to bring a pair of scissors, metal edge ruler, and a pencil. If you have a bone folder and/or awl, please bring those, too. If you don’t have these items, the instructor will have tools for you to borrow.
